illustrator tutorial │ How to use the appearance palette

This is another beginner tutorial on adobe illustrator. In this tutorial we will learn how to use the appearance tool. This is a very important tool. On most of the tutorial I have used this tool. So, I strongly recommend you to see this valuable guide attentively. Otherwise you may not be able to realize the advanced tutorials such as 3d and complex shape tutorials.

Learn how to use the appearance palette of illustrator:

To enable the appearance palette go to "window/appearance". To learn the use of appearance palette first create an object and apply effects on it. For example, I have created a rectangle with light-sky-blue color. I have applied a 3d effect on it.

Now, we will see the use of appearance palette live. Select the 3d rectangle and go to appearance palette. Here you can see some options which you will learn step by step in practically.

A. Stroke: To modify the stroke of the selected object use this option

B. Fill: To change the fill color, use this option.

C. 3d extrude and bevel: This is an effect that we have applied. All applied effects will be shown under this option. Double click on this option. A pop up window will be opened with your applied effects. Fill free to change the option. I have changed the extrude depth from "50" to "100".

To change all effects double click on it and change the values.

D. Add new stroke: To add new stroke click on this icon.

E. Add new fill: To add new fill click on this icon.

F. Add effects: To apply more effect click on this icon. You will many options with all possible effects.

G. Clear appearance: You can delete all effects by clicking this icon.

H. Duplicate appearance: You can create a new copy of appearance of the selected object.

I. Delete appearance: To delete an appearance firs select it and hit this icon.
